Seventy-One Magazine

Our objective for this assignment was to create a fictional magazine for an environmental issue of our choice.

I choose to focus on aquatic issues, and came across the ocean warming crisis as a selling feature article.

The hook reads: Ocean’s aborbing man-made heat at colossal rate!

In order to fully drive the concept home, I thought it would be a cool idea to introduce liquid crystal mylar into the cover. Liquid crystal mylar is unique as it changes colour based on the temperature. This means that when on the magazine stand, the image will be hidden (masked in black), but when picked up and interacted with, will change colours exposing the aquatic scene. In other words, ‘man-made heat’ will be getting absorbed into the ocean.
